There are places where history is not kept in books. It lives in the stones, the houses, the objects and the traces left behind by those who came before us.
In this first episode of "𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱", we explore the tangible heritage of Soajo, discovering the stories hidden within its stones, traditions and everyday objects.
The espigueiros tell us how a community learned to live from the land, protect its harvests and celebrate moments of abundance. The stone houses and walls show us a village built with what the mountain itself had to offer. The Pillory carries stories of justice, resistance and a strong sense of community.
But heritage also lives in the hands of those who create. In traditional clothing, in handmade dolls inspired by the women of Soajo, and in ceramics that transform landscapes, animals and memories into new ways of telling the story of this land.
Every stone, every piece and every detail holds a part of those who lived here.
Because preserving heritage is not only about protecting what remains. It is about understanding the stories these things continue to tell.
A special thank you to Gracinda Araújo, Filipa Correia, Carlos Ribeiro, Manuel Lage (father) and Manuel Lage (son) for sharing their stories with us 🤍
