I used to start almost every morning the same way. I woke up, grabbed my phone, watched a few videos, checked Facebook, TikTok or YouTube, and sometimes stayed in bed for another 30 or 60 minutes. Then I finally got up, but by that time I already felt like I had wasted the morning.
I still had things to study and work on, but it was much harder to start. My mind was already looking for something interesting, and sitting down with a book or my laptop felt boring.
So I decided to change just the first part of my day. I stopped using my phone when I woke up. I got out of bed, washed my face, drank some water, went outside for a walk or a run, came back, had breakfast, and then started working.
It wasn't some magical change. There were still mornings when I didn't want to do anything. I still got distracted and sometimes wasted time.
But I started noticing that when I didn't spend the first hour of my day looking for something to entertain me, it was easier to sit down and do what I actually wanted to do.
That's why I'm starting to care more about my mornings. Not because waking up early will suddenly make my life better, but because the first thing I choose to do is often the direction I keep following for the rest of the day.
So I'm going to keep trying. Maybe changing my morning won't change my whole life. But maybe it can change what I do with today.
