I started a Master's degree in Game Design convinced that better programming, more advanced systems, and increasingly complex architecture were the key to making great games. After years of studying software engineering, full stack development, algorithms, and game programming, I thought I knew what mattered most. Then I read Boss Fight Books: Spelunky. What started as a book about a roguelike game turned into a complete shift in how I think about game design, player experience, and what actually makes games memorable. In this video I break down the lessons I learned from Spelunky, why I think many aspiring game developers focus on the wrong things, and how this changed the direction of my own Master's project. Whether you're an indie developer, game design student, solo developer, or simply interested in how great games are made, I hope you'll find something valuable here. If you enjoyed the video, leave a comment and let me know what game taught you the biggest design lesson. === Music credits === Music by https://www.bensound.com/free-music-f...
