Musical "The Shadows" The Shadows Based on the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen and Evgeny Shwartz’s play "The Shadow". A young scholar, Christian-Theodore, arrives in a small southern country to study its history. He takes a room at an inn—the very same room once occupied by a famous storyteller (Hans Christian Andersen). He is visited by Annunziata, the innkeeper's daughter. She tells the Scholar things about their country that are never written in textbooks: here, fairy tales are absolute reality, not mere fiction. Ogres, Tom Thumb, and many other wonders genuinely exist. In the house directly opposite lives a young woman. She is beautiful, and the young scholar falls for her. In a strange burst of emotion, Christian addresses his own shadow, saying how wonderful it would be if the shadow could go over to the mysterious stranger and deliver his words of love. Suddenly, the shadow detaches from the scholar and leaves him, obeying his command. He ignores all warnings that the shadow might not be what it seems.
