Within the shadow of the historic University of South Carolina Horseshoe and State Capital complex, stands Cornell Arms Apartments. When completed in 1949, Cornell Arms was the tallest building between Richmond and Miami. The 18 story building is a steel frame structure with a handsome red brick veneer designed by the regionally renowned Southeastern architecture firm Lyles, Bissett, Carlisle & Wolff (LBC&W) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Properties. These had rotodials that were disabled on upper floors after modification reasons and old age of components. Not very typical of them being left in the wall after modernization.
