Allen Ginsberg Memorial Patti Smith Ed Sanders Tuli Kupferberg Paint It Red & Black

Much loved American poet Allen Ginsberg left the planet on April 5, 1997, his teacher in Tibetan Buddhism Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founder of The Naropa Institute of Disembodied Poetics, left on April 4, 1987, a decade and a day apart , both of liver ailments,cancer and cirrhosis respectively( talk about discipleship !). Tulifuli commemorates the passing of these two men with the airing of some footage shot by Norman Savitt at the" Allen Ginsberg Planet News Memorial" at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City, May 14, 1998. Included in this video are Danny Schechter, Ed Sanders, Pedro Pietri, Steve Taylor, Scott Petito, The Fugs, Lenny Kaye, Philip Glass and Patti Smith reading On the Cremation of Chogyam Trungpa Vidyadhara (1987) in anything but the Buddhist spirit of detachment. Following, a performance by Tuli Kupferberg and explanation of "Paint it Red and Black, " a parasong to the tune of the Rolling Stone's classic, "Paint it Black."
