What is the gospel? If someone asked you that question and you only had a few moments to answer, what would you say? Many Christians would answer: Jesus died for my sins. Jesus forgives me. God loves me. If I believe in Jesus, I receive eternal life. Those things are true—but when we look at the gospel Jesus Himself preached, we discover something even bigger. Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming: "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." — Mark 1:15 The good news is that the King has come and His Kingdom has broken into the world. In this message, Pastor Adam Louks continues Oasis Church's series on the Kingdom of God by asking a foundational question: What is the gospel according to Jesus? The gospel doesn't begin with an angry God who needs Jesus to calm Him down. It begins with: "For God so loved the world..." Jesus didn't come to convince the Father to love us. Jesus reveals the Father who already loves us. And Jesus said He wasn't sent into the world to condemn it—but to save it. Then Jesus announces the Kingdom. The time is fulfilled. The waiting is over. The King has come. The Kingdom of God is at hand. God's rule and reign have broken into the world. Repent. Change the way you think. Believe the gospel. Actually believe the good news Jesus announced. And immediately after announcing the Kingdom in Mark 1, Jesus begins demonstrating it. Darkness is confronted. People are delivered. The sick are healed. Captives are set free. Sinners receive forgiveness. The oppressed find freedom. People are restored. The Kingdom is already here, but we still await its fullness. That means there will be mystery. We won't understand why every prayer isn't answered the way we expect. But we refuse to turn mystery into unbelief. We will pray. We will obey. We will expect. We will participate. And we will remain humble about what we don't understand. The Kingdom isn't advanced Christianity for pastors, prophets, or "super spiritual" people. Jesus said: Repent and believe. The King has come. And when the Kingdom comes near, everything changes.
