Tennoji Zoo (天王寺動物園), located in Tennoji Park in central Osaka, is one of Japan's oldest zoos, open since 1915. It's home to around 1,000 animals from about 170 species, including a popular polar bear, red pandas, lions, and three Asian elephants that arrived from Malaysia in March 2026. The zoo is just a 10-minute walk from Tennoji Station and Shinsekai, making it an easy half-day stop on any Osaka itinerary. 🎫 TENNOJI ZOO ADMISSION (as of August 2026): Adults: ¥800 (approx. US$5.50) Elementary & junior high students: ¥200 Children under 6: Free Open 9:30–17:00 (last entry 16:00) / Closed Mondays 💡 TIPS BEFORE YOU GO: There are two gates: Shinsekai Gate (near Tsutenkaku Tower) and Tenshiba Gate (near Tennoji Station). Either works. Check the feeding schedule at the entrance — it changes daily. Buying tickets online in advance saves queue time. Re-entry is allowed until 16:00. Combine with Shinsekai (street food, Billiken statues, Tsutenkaku Tower) or Abeno Harukas (tallest building in western Japan, 10 min walk) for a full day. No talk, just walk.
