Places in News 21–27 September 2026 | Geography Mapping for UPSC 2027 | UPSC Prelims 2027 Geography UPSC 2027 Geography Mapping, Current Affairs Places in News, India & World Map-Based Locations explained by Gaurav Sharma. Welcome to this week’s Places in News 21–27 September 2026 class, specially designed for UPSC 2027 Prelims and other competitive examinations. In this Geography Mapping Current Affairs session, we will locate and understand important places appearing in recent national and international news and connect them with their physical geography, political geography, rivers, mountains, seas, oceans, borders, states, countries, ports, islands, and strategic locations. For UPSC preparation, map-based current affairs is an important part of Geography and General Studies. Questions can connect a place in the news with its geographical location, neighbouring countries, important rivers, mountain ranges, seas, straits, climate zones, protected areas, resources, or strategic significance. Therefore, simply memorising the name of a location is not enough. This class focuses on location + geographical features + current affairs + map orientation. What You Will Learn in This Class In this Places in News for UPSC 2027 session, we will cover important locations from India and the World that are relevant from the perspective of UPSC Prelims and Geography. The class focuses on: Places in News September 2026 Geography Mapping for UPSC 2027 UPSC Prelims 2027 Map-Based Questions Important places in India Important places in World Geography Countries and neighbouring regions Mountain ranges and passes Rivers and river basins Seas, oceans and important coastal locations Straits, gulfs and channels Islands and island groups Ports and strategic locations National parks and protected areas Important regions in current affairs Border and geopolitical locations Physical geography associated with places in the news Important locations from an India map and world map perspective Why Places in News Is Important for UPSC 2027 Places in News is an important component of UPSC Current Affairs and Geography preparation. UPSC can use current events as a starting point for testing static geographical concepts. For example, when a particular country, mountain, river, island, port, strait or region appears in the news, aspirants should be able to answer: Where is it located? Which country or region is it associated with? Which neighbouring geographical features are important? Which sea, ocean or river is nearby? Why is the location important? What static Geography concepts can be connected to it? This approach helps transform current affairs into map-based UPSC preparation. UPSC Prelims 2027 Geography Strategy While preparing Geography for UPSC Prelims 2027, maintain a separate map-based current affairs notebook. Mark important locations on an India map and World map, revise them regularly, and connect every current-affairs location with static Geography. This weekly Geography Mapping Class is intended to make that process easier by bringing important Places in News together in one session.
