Liao Hui may be the greatest Chinese weightlifter ever, but his career was interrupted by one of the strangest doping bans in Olympic weightlifting history. This video explores Liao Hui’s complete career, world records and controversial suspension. Liao Hui became Olympic champion at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, lifting 158 kg in the snatch and 190 kg in the clean and jerk for a 348 kg total. Only one year later, Liao Hui won his first World Weightlifting Championship and established himself as China’s dominant 69 kg weightlifter. At the 2010 World Championships, Liao Hui appeared to produce another historic performance. However, he was later disqualified after testing positive for boldenone and androstatrienedione. His gold medal and world records were removed, and Liao Hui initially received a four-year ban. That suspension was later reduced to two years, but the case still prevented him from competing at the 2012 London Olympics. Liao Hui returned in 2013 and immediately became world champion again, setting a 198 kg clean and jerk world record. In 2014, Liao Hui snatched 166 kg and totalled 359 kg, giving him all three world records in the old 69 kg category and one of the greatest Sinclair performances in weightlifting history. This video covers Liao Hui’s Olympic gold medal, doping ban, return to competition, world records, Chinese weightlifting career and claim to being the best Chinese weightlifter ever. 廖辉 #LiaoHui #ChineseWeightlifting #OlympicWeightlifting
