Redux of an earlier video where I got the country of manufacture wrong. Previous owner expertly applied a “Charvel USA” decal to the headstock, but the neck plate is MIM. The USA model has a truss rod bullet adjustment, while the MIM model has the EVH heel wheel truss adjustment. I prefer the heel adjustment - makes truss adjustment very easy.
Designed by one of greats of first wave L.A. shredders, this is a terrific companion piece to the George Lynch Kamikaze Superstrat offered on my Reverb page, since they crossed paths in LA hair bands during the heyday of the scene. George was up for the Ozzy gig and reportedly lost-out to Jake because George’s hair was too short.
Compound radius, thin profile - this is a fairly standard shredder except for the hard tail bridge. Also notable is the lack of treble control - this makes the guitar a little brighter and gives the player the ability to pot-down without losing highs for good clean tones without channel switching. The single coil neck and middle pickups sound great and the Duncan JB bridge feeds enough input to a JCM800 to do some lead work, although I’d recommend a classic drive pedal like the SD-1 to push it into singing sustain. Lightweight, distinctive and versatile, the Charvel Jake is a player’s guitar.
