Known for its reputation as one of the capital’s most dangerous neighborhoods, La 42 is a place most tourists will never visit, especially after dark. But beyond the headlines, crime stories, and reputation is a community filled with real people, everyday struggles, and stories that rarely get told. With the help of a well-known local Tony, who agreed to show me around, I walked the streets after sunset to experience a side of Santo Domingo that most visitors never see. From the narrow streets to the music, motorcycles, and locals going about their lives, this was an opportunity to see La 42 through my own eyes rather than judge it by its reputation.
