Operation: Thunder, released by Premier / Gottlieb in March 1992, is a military-themed, solid-state pinball machine designed by Ray Tanzer that places up to four players in command of an elite squadron of F-15 Eagles and Stealth Fighters. As Gottlieb's final game to feature an alphanumeric score display before transitioning entirely to dot-matrix displays, it challenges pilots to complete eleven consecutive, linear air-attack missions while managing a strictly timed fuel mechanic. The fast-paced playfield is highly notable for its physical layout, which includes three flippers, eight drop-targets, a classic vari-target, and a unique, upper-right domed power plant toy equipped with a spinning turntable that violently hurls the ball around targets.
