Of Honda’s MiniMOTO lineup, I believe the Dax 125 is one of the best platforms for off-road use, especially with a few thoughtful modifications. My decision to choose the Dax over the Monkey came down to its overall design and capabilities. The Dax offers a higher air intake, 0.7 inches more rear suspension travel, a 2.2-inch longer wheelbase, and 0.1 inches more ground clearance. The Monkey certainly has its advantages, including a manual clutch, a larger fuel tank, a five-speed transmission, and a more comfortable seat. However, when it comes to off-road versatility, I believe the Dax has the upper hand. I would even argue that, with the right setup, the Dax can be just as capable off-road as the CT125. Compared with the Trail, the Dax has 0.5 inches more ground clearance, 1.3 inches more rear suspension travel, 0.4 inches more front suspension travel, wider tires, a lower curb weight, and inverted front forks. With a few practical upgrades, such as trail-appropriate tires, revised sprockets, and protective armor, the Dax can become a surprisingly capable little trail machine. The CT125 still has some important advantages, including a larger fuel tank, a longer wheelbase, and a higher air intake. Those features make it well suited for longer rides and more demanding terrain. However, the Dax offers an impressive combination of low weight, suspension travel, ground clearance, and maneuverability. Ultimately, I chose the Dax because I wanted a lightweight, versatile, and easy-to-maintain motorcycle that could handle pavement, gravel roads, and trails without sacrificing everyday usability. With the right modifications, I believe it can hold its own off-road and may be one of the most underrated trail platforms in Honda’s MiniMOTO lineup.
