Itential Platform Dev Stack: Introduction & Platform Tour

Network automation starts with understanding how the platform reaches your devices. In Lesson 1 of this hands-on series, Itential Solutions Engineer Elliot Conner walks through the Itential Platform and Itential Gateway using a working lab of two FRR routers and two Arista switches running OSPF. This series is built for anyone with a laptop, whether you've used Itential before or not. Elliot starts by verifying the lab from the terminal with a single make verify command, then signs in and tours the three groups that organize the platform: Administer, Build, and Operate. From there, you see how the split between platform and gateway works. The platform never logs into a device directly. It hands work to the gateway, which handles SSH to the device, so the platform can orchestrate against any network the gateway can reach. Elliot covers Gateway Manager, Inventory Manager, and Configuration Manager, then pulls live running configs from both an Arista and an FRR device without opening a terminal. The lesson closes by running a prebuilt workflow in Studio that executes show running-config on both routers in about five seconds, then reading the results in Operations Manager.
