Today Headlines | காலை 6 மணி தலைப்புச் செய்திகள் - 16 September 2026 | Tamil News The Union Finance Ministry has fixed a 0.4 percent charge on UPI merchant transactions above ₹2,000, effective from October 15. There will be no charge for digital money transfers between individuals. A ₹5 charge will apply for UPI payments above ₹2,000 for railways, telecommunications, insurance and fuel. A ₹300 charge will be fixed for merchant transactions above ₹75,000, regardless of the number of transactions. The Centre has directed that UPI transaction charges should not be collected from customers. MDR charges will not apply to 96 percent of UPI transactions between consumers and merchants, the Union Finance Ministry clarified. Introducing charges on UPI transactions above ₹2,000 is an important step to strengthen India's digital payments ecosystem, the Reserve Bank said. It will also help UPI continue to grow and encourage innovation.
