In this episode of The Gray Side of Story, we’re taking you behind the scenes of some of our shoots, including our review of the theatre play So Suite, some of the podcast shoots and our Urdu vs Punjabi episode. There’s a lot of fun and random BTS in this one because, honestly, making Gray is not always as serious as the topics we talk about. We also watched So Suite and had a genuinely good time watching the actors perform. But while the performances were enjoyable, we also found ourselves thinking about the kind of humour the play relied on. A lot of the jokes leaned on sexism, ableism, homophobia and other stereotypes. So the question became: can something be entertaining and still leave us questioning the ideas behind the humour? Could the jokes have been fun without relying on these things? That is pretty much what Gray is about. We can enjoy something, laugh at something and still stop to think about the social ideas underneath it. You’ll also see some BTS from our Urdu vs Punjabi episode, where we explored how we talk about some of Gray’s main themes in the two languages, including misogyny, patriarchy and patriarchal trauma. Sometimes the words are different, but the social systems and experiences we are talking about are surprisingly similar. So this episode is a mix of shoots, theatre, conversations, language, chaos and the things we end up thinking about while making Gray. This is the Gray Side of Story. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bibi Zainab is the founder of Gray, a creative education platform exploring the intersection of mental health, patriarchy and decolonized thinking through podcasts, workshops and masterclasses.
