Dutch History: The coal mines in Limburg (1919)

Click on "Settings" in the video to select English subtitles. Filmfabriek Hollandia was commissioned in 1917 to make a film about the state mines in Limburg. For the film, director Jules Stoop made recordings in the mines 'Emma', 'Wilhelmina' and 'Hendrik' in Heerlen, in which he shows the underground work, as well as the work above ground. It is unique to see that there was a horse stable at more than two hundred meters depth, where a farrier can be seen at work.
