You've seen the Bituminous Kole presentation on the America 250 Locomotive Celebration at Spencer, North Carolina. Of course, I had to get there. Road trip! This video features stops between Indiana and Spencer: Prince, West Virginia for the Chesapeake & Ohio train station in the Art Moderne style, and the iconic logo of Chessie the kitten on the station floor, and Amtrak's Cardinal. A stop at Kannapolis NC proved fruitful, as a huge Norfolk Southern intermodal train made it halfway through town before stopping so two commuter trains could pass. These are Amtrak Carolinian / Piedmont trains pulled by EMD rebuilds, hauling coaches with delightfully names! Caught a second intermodal, by and by. Added some bonus footage from Spencer- a TTX boxcar twirling on the turntable; horn details on a locomotive; an excursion passing the enormous Southern Railway fuel tank. Showed some of the non-rail features of the North Carolina Transportation Museum at Spencer, and well, more of the rail stuff too. A couple of road stops invoked the recently departed Dolly Parton. Got a flat tire too. Now that's a road trip!
