A rare private recording from a loft session in Manhattan's Fashion District in 1980, from the era when New York's loft scene was home to some of the city's most adventurous jazz. Tenor saxophonist Steve Grossman (1951-2020) had joined Miles Davis's band as a teenager, replacing Wayne Shorter, and then spent two years with Elvin Jones. By 1980 he was one of the strongest post-Coltrane tenor players around, with a big, driving sound rooted in Sonny Rollins.
