In today's video, I’m working on my dad’s 1998 Dodge van. He’s had it since it was brand new, and while it’s been well-maintained, it’s started having a frustrating issue where it wants to die as soon as you let off the throttle. I’m diving in to replace the Idle Air Control (IAC) and the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Along the way, I discover a broken wire that might actually be the real culprit. I’ll walk you through the entire process—from removing the console to soldering and crimping wires—to get "Old Derek" back to idling like a kitten. A Message on Recovery Stick around until the end of the video, because I also want to share a bit about why I do these projects. For me, working on this van isn't just about the mechanics; it’s a vital part of my recovery journey. I firmly believe that "idle hands are the devil's playground," and having these hobbies keeps my mind occupied and focused on the positive. I’ve spent years on the streets and faced points where it was literally a choice between life and death. Today, I’m three years into a journey I chose for myself, and I want to use this platform to share stories of success—not just mine, but yours too. Whether you’re in recovery, dealing with the stigmas of addiction or homelessness, or just need to hear that it's okay to be "selfish" in your healing, I’m here for you. In this video: Step-by-step console removal on a snub-nose Dodge van. Locating and replacing the IAC and TPS sensors. Troubleshooting broken wiring and making electrical repairs. A personal talk on the importance of hobbies and mindset in recovery.
