Originally known as the Xin'an River Reservoir, Qiandao Lake is located in Chun'an County, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, with a portion extending into the northwest of Jiande City. Construction of the Xin'an River Hydropower Station began in 1955; the dam's sluices were closed to begin impoundment in 1959, and the reservoir was completed in 1960.
