Yung DSA and MC Stan have been compared because of similarities in their style, speech, sound and overall presentation. But does similarity automatically mean copying?
In this video, I share my perspective on the Yung DSA vs MC Stan discussion after watching Shaggy’s video on the topic.
The main focus is the difference between inspiration and copying in Desi Hip-Hop. We also talk about MC Stan’s inspiration from Playboi Carti, Hip-Hop influences from outside India, dreadlocks and how artists can develop similar styles because of their cultural environment.
If two artists grow up around similar people, language, slang, references and culture, some similarities can naturally appear. That does not automatically mean one artist copied the other.
I’m not here to hate or defend Yung DSA, MC Stan or Shaggy. This video is simply my logical POV on the discussion and why context matters before calling an artist a copy.
What do you think? What exactly feels similar between Yung DSA and MC Stan — their style, sound, flow, speech or overall personality? And do you think it comes from influence, environment or something else?
