Most people know Mammoth for ski resorts and crowded viewpoints, but hitting the Eastern Sierra mid-week reveals a completely different world. I headed down Highway 395 solo to trade the crowds for backroads, volcanic history, and true backcountry solitude. From a dead-calm sunrise and night under the Milky Way at Convict Lake to climbing volcanic domes, exploring steam-blast craters, and soaking in backcountry hot springs, this was the ultimate Sierra reset. I wrapped up the trip by finding an incredible dispersed BLM camp perched directly above the geothermal canyon of Hot Creek Geological Site. 📍 LOCATIONS VISITED: • Convict Lake Campground & Loop Trail • Obsidian Dome • Inyo Craters • Earthquake Fault • Minaret Vista • Lunch in Mammoth Lakes (The Good Life Cafe) • Wild Willy's Hot Springs & Rock Tub • Dispersed BLM Camping above Hot Creek Geological Site ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 - Intro & Heading Down Highway 395 01:25 - Camp Setup & Hiking the Convict Lake Loop 03:40 - Deer Encounter at Camp 05:02 - Convict Lake Milky Way & Sunrise 06:02 - Exploring Obsidian Dome 07:04 - Inyo Craters Hike 07:46 - Earthquake Fault 08:46 - Minaret Vista & Lunch in Town 09:26 - Scouting Hot Springs (Wild Willy's & Rock Tub) 10:30 - Camp Setup Above Hot Creek Geological Site 11:59 - Sunset, Camp Kitchen & Carnitas Tacos 13:08 - Exploring Hot Creek Canyon 14:31 - Wrapping Up & Heading Home If you enjoyed the video, don't forget to hit the like button and subscribe for more truck camping and Eastern Sierra adventures! #MammothLakes #EasternSierra #TruckCamper #Highway395 #SoloCamping #Overlanding #HotCreek #ConvictLake
