KISSA 79 imagines a hidden Tokyo listening room in 1979 — walnut speakers, glowing tube amplifiers, shelves of vinyl, strong coffee and a sound system turned up just enough to make the room breathe.
Across 15 instrumental tracks, Japanese jazz-funk meets broken beat and restrained analog electronica. Rhodes, Clavinet, warm electric bass, dry live drums, clean jazz guitar and vibraphone remain at the center, while mono synths, tape machines and subtle sequencers gradually enter the room.
The music avoids glossy city-pop nostalgia and lo-fi clichés. Instead, KISSA 79 leans into the physical feel of a small hi-fi room: records being selected, amplifiers warming up, rain gathering on the glass, meters pushing into the red and the energy rising as Side B begins.
The album starts slowly, builds through increasingly intricate jazz-funk grooves, reaches its strongest peaks around Meter Red and Side B Burn, then settles into a warmer late-night closing section.
Each visual remains inside the same listening room, with only small changes in lighting, objects, weather and equipment from track to track.
