You're alone in chest-high grass at dusk when something starts moving against the wind behind you. It turns out to be a cat the weight of three men, with teeth shaped like daggers — and you have no claws, no fangs, and a top speed of twenty-eight miles an hour against its forty-five. For two million years humans were prey, hunted by saber-toothed cats, cave lions, giant hyenas, crocodiles and eagles that were all faster, stronger and better armed than we were. This film walks through the fossil evidence — a leopard-punctured child's skull, a toothless elder who lived into his forties, a disabled child carried for five years — to show exactly how an unarmed, slow, night-blind ape turned the tables. The answer comes down to four things we built instead of grew: fire, persistence hunting, tracking, and cooperation. Every one of those predators is extinct today. We're not. 📌 Humans never won a single physical contest against these predators. We walked animals to heatstroke instead of outrunning them, carried elders who could no longer chew their own food, and threw stones and spears from a distance no claw could reach — substituting tools and teamwork for everything evolution left out of our bodies. 🔎 Inside: the fossil proof that humans were hunted, not hunters; the five apex predators that specialized in killing us; why fire bought us four extra waking hours a day; how persistence hunting let a weak, slow ape run faster animals into heatstroke; why a toothless old man and a disabled child are the real evidence of what saved us; and the extinction record showing every one of these predators disappearing within a few thousand years of our arrival. ⏱ 0:00 Face to Face With a Saber-Tooth 0:48 How Are We Still Here? 1:28 Naming the Ice Age Predators 2:09 Surrounded on Every Side 2:54 Why We Should Be Extinct 3:36 The Reversal: They're All Gone 4:19 What Fire Bought Us 5:02 Bigger Brains, Built to Sweat 6:00 The Persistence Hunt 6:44 Turning Tracking Into a Weapon 7:30 The Old Man Who Couldn't Feed Himself 8:11 The Child No One Left Behind 8:53 Spears Turn the Hunt Around 9:34 Out of Africa, Everywhere at Once 10:18 Our One Gift Was Substitution 11:02 Before You Go 💬 Of the four — fire, endurance, tracking, or cooperation — which one do you think mattered most?
