Akukọ Mbe na Enyi - First All Female Choir Nigeria (Live in Africa Sings 2026, Kenya)

Watch First All Female Choir, Nigeria perform “Akukọ Mbe na Enyi,” the competition piece that earned the choir first place and a cash prize in the Female Choir Category at the 9th Africa Sings Festival in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2026. This victory marked the choir’s sixth international first-place finish in the Female Choir Category, following previous wins in Rwanda, Cotonou in Benin Republic, Togo, Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Performed at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa Auditorium, this musical retelling brings an Igbo folktale to life through choral singing, movement and drama. “Akukọ Mbe na Enyi” is available in all digital stores. ABOUT THE STORY When a princess declares that she will marry whichever suitor brings her the mighty Elephant, the Tortoise devises a cunning plan. He tells the Elephant that the king has chosen him to chair a wedding celebration at the palace. Trusting the Tortoise, the Elephant agrees to have a rope tied around his neck as part of the supposed honour. The Tortoise leads him to the palace, fulfils the princess’s condition and wins her hand in marriage. Beneath the humour lies a cautionary lesson about deception: be discerning about the advice you accept and the people you trust.
