Rebelde went on the air in 2004 and did not stay on television. It became a band that sold more than fifteen million records worldwide. And in January 2023, when the reunion was announced, one of the six was missing — five stood together in front of the cameras, and nobody explained the empty space.
Anahí played Mía Colucci, and she was already a veteran at 21: she had been working in Mexican children's programmes since she was small. She has spoken publicly, with real honesty, about the eating disorders she lived through during those years of fame — not as an anecdote, but so that the girls watching would not repeat it. In 2015 she married the politician Manuel Velasco and stepped back into a quiet life with their two sons, Manuel and Emiliano. For years she said she would never return to the stage. In 2023 she returned anyway.
Alfonso Herrera played Miguel Arango, and he is the one who did not come back. After Rebelde he built a serious international acting career in English-language productions, far from the band. He skipped the 2020 virtual reunion and the 2023 tour, with no public quarrel and no crossfire — he simply said no, and held to it, knowing exactly what he was letting pass.
Christian Chávez played Giovanni Méndez, and on 2 March 2007 photographs of his wedding to a man in Canada were leaked. He did not choose the moment, the place, or the words. He could have denied it. Instead he confirmed it publicly, and became the first openly gay Mexican singer with an international career — in 2007, in front of an audience of millions of Latin American teenagers.
Dulce María played Roberta Pardo and took the hardest road afterwards: her own music, written by her, plus a book of poetry. She married Paco Álvarez in 2019, and their daughter María Paula was born in 2020.
Christopher von Uckermann played Diego Bustamante and became the most private of the six, disappearing for long stretches into far more alternative music. He still showed up in 2023.
Maite Perroni played Lupita Fernández and built the steadiest acting career of the group, with more than a decade of leading roles. She married Andrés Tovar in October 2022, her daughter Lía was born in May 2023 — and three months later she was on stage in El Paso, Texas, opening the reunion tour as a new mother.
The Soy Rebelde Tour ran from 25 August 2023 in El Paso to 21 December 2023 in Mexico City: close to two million people and more than 230 million dollars.
