Criccieth Walking Tour | Beautiful Castle & Seaside Town in North Wales

Welcome to Criccieth, a small coastal town in North Wales that feels peaceful, relaxing, and full of character from the very first moment you arrive. Our walk takes us along the seafront, where the sound of the waves and fresh sea air create the perfect atmosphere for a slow and relaxing stroll. Criccieth is known for its beautiful beaches, and from almost every part of the promenade you can see the impressive ruins of Criccieth Castle standing high on the rocky hill overlooking the sea. Walking along the promenade, we are treated to a majestic view of Criccieth Castle rising high above the coastline. It’s one of the most photographed spots in the town and especially popular during sunset, when the warm light over the sea creates a truly beautiful atmosphere. The views here are also spectacular from above, which is why drone shots of Criccieth look absolutely stunning. With the castle, the beach, the coastline, and the colourful houses all coming together in one view, it’s easy to see why this place is considered one of the hidden gems of North Wales. The castle has a long history dating back to the 13th century and was originally built by the Welsh prince Llywelyn the Great before later being taken over and strengthened by King Edward I during his conquest of Wales. Because of its position between two beaches, the castle was once an important defensive stronghold guarding this part of the coastline. One of the most beautiful things about Criccieth is the view from the waterfront. On one side you have the sea and sandy beach, while behind the castle you can often see rows of colourful houses climbing the hillside, giving the town a very charming and almost postcard-like appearance. As you continue walking along the promenade, the atmosphere feels calm and traditional, very different from larger seaside resorts. People come here to relax, enjoy the scenery, sit in small cafés, and simply slow down for a while. Criccieth may be a small town, but it has a very special character.
