Twenty real Spanish conversations you would actually have in Spain — slow, clear Castilian Spanish for beginners (A1-A2), with subtitles.
This is not a phrase list. It is one continuous story. Marta has just arrived from Rome with one suitcase, and over 31 minutes she orders her first coffee, finds the metro at Atocha, checks into a hostal, argues politely with a wifi password, buys three peaches instead of a kilo, and by the last conversation she is making plans for Saturday. Every scene follows the one before it, so the vocabulary comes back on its own instead of being drilled.
The Spanish is spoken slowly and the difficulty stays at A1-A2 throughout. It is the Spanish of Spain — the accent, the prices, the customs, the words that only make sense once you live there.
Nothing in these conversations goes wrong because somebody decides to be rude. It goes wrong the way it really does: a coffee machine is loud, a queue is building, a form puts your surname in the wrong box, the rain starts and you have no umbrella.

🇪🇸 NINE WORDS YOU ONLY REALLY LEARN BY LIVING IN SPAIN
caña — a small draught beer, and the default thing to order in a Spanish bar
tapa — the free bite that arrives with your drink in Madrid. You do not order it
menú del día — the fixed-price weekday lunch: starter, main, dessert, bread, drink
boquerón — a fresh anchovy in vinegar, and the name of Manolo's bar
bollería — the basket of pastries at breakfast
festivo — a public holiday, the day everything is shut
el Rastro — Madrid's Sunday flea market, in La Latina
boli / pluma — a boli is a biro. A pluma is a fountain pen. Ask for the wrong one and you get the wrong one
hostal — not a hostel. A small, cheap, family-run hotel with private rooms
📌 HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS
1. First pass: watch it through with the subtitles in your language. Just follow the story.
2. Second pass: switch the subtitles to Spanish. You will understand more than you expect, because you already know what happens.
3. Third pass: subtitles off. Use the chapters to go back to the one conversation that still loses you.
4. Say the lines out loud in the pauses. The gaps between lines are there for that.
