Pastor Wendell Brown’s message on Sunday, September 27th at Grace was based on the Gospel lesson of Matthew 21:23-32. Pastor Wendell titled his sermon, “A Tale of Two Brothers.” Jesus spoke in parables and this lesson was no different. A man had two sons. He told the first son to go work in the vineyard. The son said he would, but did not and, then changed his mind to go work in the vineyard. The second son said he would go work in the vineyard but never did. Jesus said, “Which of the two sons did the will of the father?” The first son did the right thing. Pastor Wendell said that one’s word does not mean anything unless it is backed up with action. However, it is easy to say “yes” and then become distracted with life. We heard examples of how we can grow up in church and then not worship for years. Sometimes there is an event like having children of our own that will bring people back. Our Heavenly Father always says, “Welcome back.” Pastor Brown said it is sometimes easy to rely on appearances, but we need to make sure we are walking the walk in our Christian life. He said we need “more Andrew’s.” There is no book in the Bible named Andrew, but every time Andrew was mentioned, he was bringing someone to meet Jesus. Pastor Wendell left us with the message, “Lord take me where you want me to go.”
