I look at why fewer Indian students are choosing the traditional destinations, why Germany and other countries are gaining ground, and how changing visa rules, living costs and education loans affect the decision. The dream of studying abroad has shifted—and the old plan of a degree, a job and permanent residency is no longer something I would take for granted. I share the conditions I would check before going: the course, the university, the chance to work after graduation and whether the likely earnings can support the loan. I also discuss agent red flags and my own experience in the US: even with a full scholarship and a stipend, I needed a loan for my visa and flight.
