The Mind of Christ: Standing against the wiles of the devil

Walking in the Spirit and the Mind of Christ There is another dimension to this. Earlier, I mentioned that the enemy can attack the mind and the body, but he cannot ultimately overthrow the new life we have received in our spirit, which is united with the Lord. 1 Corinthians 6:17 says: “But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” Not only are we united with Christ in our spirit, but Scripture also tells us that we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16 says: “For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” When we read this verse in the context of the entire chapter, Paul is explaining that we have received the Spirit of the Lord so that we can know the things that have been freely given to us by God; we can receive the things of the Spirit of God, and we can discern spiritual things. We have received the Holy Spirit, so we should not remain susceptible to the enemy’s deception when we walk in the Spirit and remain spiritually minded. The Holy Spirit, in union with our spirit, guides us into truth, teaches us, gives us understanding, reveals the things of God, and enables us to discern spiritual things. We do not have to fall prey to deception. But if we choose to live carnally, we will fall prey to the devil’s deception. Why? Spiritual-Mindedness Versus Carnal-Mindedness Romans 8:6 says: “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” What does it mean to be carnally minded? A carnal mind does not necessarily mean a sinful mind. All carnality is not sinful, but all sin comes from a carnal mind. A carnal mind is a mind governed by the flesh—by the natural realm, the body, and what can be perceived, reasoned, and understood primarily through the five senses. This is how the world thinks. The world says, “If I cannot see it, I cannot believe it.” But God has called us to a higher way of living. We are called to walk by faith. Hebrews 11:3 says: “By faith we understand…” We don’t need to see, feel, or touch something to understand or believe God. To walk by faith means to believe something more than what you can see, hear, touch, taste, or feel. This is what it means to walk as a spirit being. To walk in the Spirit, you need your sixth sense: faith. It means that we do not allow our five senses to become the ultimate authority over our lives. We learn to see beyond what is merely visible. We learn to believe what God has said even when our circumstances appear to contradict it. Faith does not deny what we see; faith chooses to believe what God has said above what we see. The devil wants you to remain in the realm of natural reasoning because he operates his deception through that realm. He wants you to evaluate everything solely by what you can see, feel, hear, touch, or experience.
