Meet Elikem Logan - Art Historian, Writer & Specialist in West African Modern and Contemporary Art. Elikem believes the story of African art is still being written and too many of the most important chapters are missing. Born and raised in Ghana, with degrees from Oxford and St Andrews, and nearly three years at Sotheby's African Modern & Contemporary Art department, Elikem has built a career at the intersection of scholarship, the market, and advocacy. Since leaving Sotheby's, he has been advising collectors, artists and institutions internationally on his own terms. In this episode, we talk about what it really means to find your place in the lineage of African art, why institutions are amoral rather than immoral and what that means for emerging artists, the narratives the market still needs to unlearn, and why Africa needs more of its own institutions telling its own stories.
