Lyrics
West London, late nineties
Little kid with a head full of dreams
Didn't know what life had waiting for him
Just knew he wanted something more
Born in Ladbroke Grove, summer ninety-eight
Little did I know how much a home could change
Mum and Dad separated, I was only seven
Too young to understand why the love was ending
Moved to Shepherd’s Bush with my mum and my brothers
Watched her carry pain while she cared for the others
I could feel the pressure, even when nobody spoke
Little man growing up with a weight he never chose
Dad would take us driving, music playing loud
Old-school rhythms while we rode around
Sometimes in the van, sometimes sleeping in the back
Didn't have much comfort, but the music filled the gaps
Not every memory came with a smile
Had to learn the meaning of a struggle as a child
Mum was doing her best, trying to keep us alright
I saw grown-up problems through a young boy's eyes
Eight years old, putting feelings on a page
Couldn't explain the pressure, so I wrote away the pain
Words inside a notebook, thoughts I couldn't say
Never knew those little lines might take me somewhere one day
I wanted things the other kids could get
New clothes, a phone, things I couldn't forget
Money started looking like a way to make things right
Didn't understand the cost of chasing it at night
School wasn't always where I found my lessons
Life outside the classroom gave me different questions
Riding through the city, looking out across the streets
Seeing different worlds that were just a ride away from me
West London showed me two sides of the game
Some had everything, some were chasing change
I was young and observant, always thinking ahead
Trying to find a different road from the one I was led
I was just a kid with a dream in the rain
Trying to turn the hurt into something I could make
Mum had her struggles, I could see it in her face
So I promised myself I would find another way
From the west side roads to a life I couldn't see
Had a thousand doubts, but a voice inside of me
If the world didn't listen, I'd keep writing my truth
Every line was a step from the pain of my youth
Fourteen, first studio, a friend took me inside
Heard my own voice through the speakers for the first time
That moment made the dream feel real, not far away
I knew I wanted music, even if I couldn't say
I started making songs, trying different sounds
Melodies and flows, still searching for my ground
Put my music out, but the numbers weren't enough
Watched others rise while I was trying to adjust
Confidence was low, I had to take a break
Years of trying different things, wondering what to change
I wasn't born a star, I was learning as I went
Every failed attempt became a lesson in the end
Life wasn't a movie, there were choices I regret
Some roads looked like money, but came with a debt
I wanted to provide, wanted more for my family
Turn the things I lived through into something they could see
And Mum, I hope you know
I saw the weight you had to hold
Even when I was too young
To understand what you went through
I couldn't fix it back then
I only had a pen
But every word I wrote
Was a promise to begin again
Then I found my direction, started seeing things clear
Less chasing every sound, more becoming who I am
Let the real voice speak, put my stories on the beat
Turned the years of struggle into something people feel
"Day in the Life", let the new chapter begin
Years of working in the shadows, now the world tuned in
From Shepherd’s Bush to stages in another country
Same kid underneath, still remembers where he's from
Success doesn't erase what you carry from before
You can change the clothes you wear, you can change the front door
Still remember where you started, what you wanted to escape
And the people back at home who helped shape your fate
I won't say the journey was an easy one
Every step took patience, every loss taught something
I was never just a headline or a name upon a screen
I was once a young boy trying to build a bigger dream
I was just a kid with a dream in the rain
Trying to turn the hurt into something I could make
Mum had her struggles, I could see it in her face
So I promised myself I would find another way
From the west side roads to a life I couldn't see
Had a thousand doubts, but a voice inside of me
If the world didn't listen, I'd keep writing my truth
Every line was a step from the pain of my youth
Ladbroke Grove, Shepherd’s Bush
A notebook full of feelings and a dream to pursue
Before the fame, before the lights
There was a kid watching his mum trying to make things right
No matter how far you travel
You remember where you came from
West London...
That's where the story starts.
