How do you defend the gospel on the internet? Paul’s last words in 2 Timothy 4:6-18 show how to fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith, even when it’s lonely. If you could say one more thing about Jesus with your last breath, what would it be? In this bonus episode, we look at Paul’s final letter and what he would say if he were running out of time: defend the Word, even when it’s hard. We also look at what that means for those of us who live with a phone in our hand and a feed full of opinions about God. Some of what’s covered: The “sort of dark question” that starts the episode: what do you want from your life at the end of your life? And why my answer is “make sure you know God’s Word.” What Paul means by the good fight, the race, and keeping the faith, and why the good fight is the fight for the Gospel, not the fight for every other cause. The cost of defending the Word. Paul stood alone at his trial, and standing firm in the truth can cost you relationships, invitations, and your spot in the group chat. Why Paul asked Timothy to bring the parchments. Even in his final days, he didn’t want to be without the Word. Two ways to defend the Gospel tomorrow: 1. Take everything you hear back to the Word. Just because someone said it, posted it, or recorded it doesn’t mean it’s true. We talk about the TikTok that calls a pastor a false teacher, the reel with “Jesus said” on every point, and the video claiming a brand new revelation from God. 2. Speak the truth in love. You can know you’re right and still be a noisy gong. We look at Ephesians 4:15 and 1 Corinthians 13:1-2, and why the good fight is fighting for the Gospel, not fighting each other. And the reminder Paul ends with: God has been keeping track, nothing you’ve walked through has been wasted, and he will strengthen you, rescue you, and bring you home. 🎧 A bonus episode of the Go With God Podcast.
