In January 2026, the organist Dr. Richard Egolf approached me to create a new arrangement based on the popular Adventist hymn, "We Have This Hope" (originally composed by Wayne Hooper in 1962), for the dedication concert of a new organ at the Abbotsford Seventh-day Adventist Church. This organ arrangement was completed in May 2026 and features a 5-note motif (first heard in the opening bars) representing "Hope" - which is repeated throughout the music in different forms. The music seeks to portray the personal experience of the Christian's hope through 5 different phases: 1. Largo - The quiet seed of hope when it is first planted in a heart. 2. Moderato - Excitement over the expected hope which inspires action and endurance. 3. Adagio - Discouragement following a delayed hope, where faith intervenes to rebuild the desire to overcome and maintain belief. 4. Vivace - The triumph of hope. 5. Grandioso - The final fulfillment of the Christian's hope. The work concludes with the "Hope" motif finally being played using the organ's pedals. The music rises over top of this and ends on a chord featuring the highest note on the organ - symbolizing the arrival of the Christian's highest hope (the second coming of Jesus Christ).
