First Hours of the Zombie Outbreak Spent Escaping the City | Zombie Outbreak 📌What's Happening in the story : The story is told by a 911 dispatcher in the city of Carrow Bay. A strange sickness starts at the harbor, and people who die get back up and attack the living. He sees the whole disaster spread across his screens, then leaves his job to find his 8-year-old daughter, Mara, who lives across the river with his ex-wife. He fights his way through the city, an overcrowded highway, a train tunnel, and a bridge that rises while people are still on it. He then crosses the river by boat, where the dead can walk along the bottom. On the far side he learns that the dead are drawn to light and noise-free, dark places are safer, and that the government's evacuation sites have become deadly traps. He finds his daughter alive at a water plant, but his ex-wife was bitten while protecting her, and he keeps his promise to end her suffering before she turns. The plant is then overrun, so he escapes north with Mara and a few other survivors. They get past a gang of armed men on the road and reach a military airstrip. There, the narrator uses his dispatcher skills to organize the evacuation, and he lures the huge crowd of dead away with a bright fire so the last plane can take off. He flies out with his daughter and hundreds of survivors, only to see other cities burning below, which shows the outbreak has spread far beyond his own city.
