It faces the Shiziyang Channel of the Pearl River and has an elevation of about 108 meters (2010 data). The Guangzhou Lotus Hill Scenic Tourist Area is located there. In 2002, it was selected as one of the “New Century Eight Sights of Yangcheng” under the name “Viewing the Sea from Lotus Peak.” The history of Lotus Hill can be traced back to the Western Han Dynasty. Located beside Shiziyang, Lotus Hill was originally called Shishitou (Stone Lion Head). The entire hill consists of hard granite, and before the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty it was a quarry. It got its name because the rocks left after quarrying resemble a lotus emerging from water. Although the ancient quarry has been abandoned for several hundred years, it has also contributed to the development of fishing, agriculture, and tourism in the area. The village was established in 1957 and named for its location beside Lotus Hill. In 1958, Lianhuashan Commune was established; in 1980, it was reorganized as a district; in 1986, Lianhuashan Town was established; and in March 2002, it was merged into Shilou Town, where it remains today. —— Lotus Hill Waterway: The Lotus Hill Waterway is a waterway in the Pearl River Delta, located in the southeast of Panyu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. It is a distributary of Shiziyang. It starts in the north at the east bank of Lotus Hill in Shilou Town, Panyu District, where it connects with Shiziyang, and flows south along the west bank of Hai'ou Island. At the southeast of Shawei, Qingliu Village, it receives the Shawan Waterway on the right and then rejoins Shiziyang. It has a total length of about 15 km, and the Lijiang River flows into it on the right bank in its middle section. In the northern section of the waterway is Lotus Hill Fishing Port, one of China's key fishing ports, with the Lotus Hill Scenic Area nearby.
