King of Macedonia, hegemon of Greece, and conqueror of the Persian Empire, Alexander the Great forged one of the largest empires in history. From the shores of the Adriatic to the edge of India, his military genius and unyielding ambition reshaped the ancient world, turning his life into an eternal legend. -------- Lyrics: Born beneath a stormlit dawn, son of thunder and prophecy. He learned the world through chart and sword, through reason’s word and warrior’s will. A wild horse reared with eyes of flame, he saw the shadow, not the fear. He turned its gaze to face the sun, the beast grew calm beneath his hand. The watchers breathed, yet none could speak and fate remembered what it saw. Τῆς Μακεδονίας παιδί, τῶν βασιλέων σπόρος. The father’s wine, the mother’s flame, one wedding tore the house apart. He left for Epeiros, alone, unbowed, a prince without a throne. Then Philip fell, the crown was dust; Hellas betrayed, and Thebes burned. From the ashes rose a king of twenty years, and Greece awoke to whom he was. When silence came, he turned to sea, on Helle’s shores where oaths were sworn. He poured the wine to gods long gone, to heroes sleeping under Troy. The wind recalled their distant names, and carried his beyond the waves. Beyond the stream of Granicus, the bronze met blood, and dawn turned red. The empire’s shield was broken down, the East was shaken by the first of his might. By Issus’ field the empire broke, and Darius fled amidst the fight. His mother wept, his queen bowed low the conquered feared for their lives. Yet steel gave way to tempered grace, and silence fell, a new world stirred. Across the sands his shadow grew, where ancient voices whispered past. In Siwa’s hush the god was asked, the mortal rose, divine renewed. Μὴ λέγε, παι Διός· ὁ γὰρ πατήρ σου θεός ἐστιν. At Gaugamela day stood still, the sky was split by battle’s cry. Darius fled, his crown undone, and Persia bowed before his sight. Through Babylon the incense rose, his name was carved in stone and hymn. Beyond the Indus, storms awoke the sky was black, the rivers raged. At Hydaspes he met his peer, and saw himself in foreign eyes. His men refused the farther road; the rain fell hard, the drums fell still. He searched their eyes and found no sparks the world had ended in their will. Through desert leagues the banners fell, his conquests weighed like chains of gold. The thunder slept, the wine grew sour and Babylon prepared a throne. He dreamed of seas beyond the stars, of worlds unmade, of roads unwalked. The fever came, the empire hushed no god replied, no friend could speak. The crown lay still beside his hand, and silence filled the world he’d made. Πάντα ῥεῖ, καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἀνὴρ ἔπεσεν· μνήμη μόνον ἀθάνατος. The years rolled on, the empires turned, his cities faded into sand. The marble cracked, the wind moved on, yet still his name was softly sung. No god returned, no star fell down; the sands forgot the paths he traced. Although his spirit long departed, his memory still lights the way. Πάντα ῥεῖ, καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἀνὴρ ἔπεσεν· μνήμη μόνον ἀθάνατος. --------- If the story of Alexander inspired you, join the Phalanx.
