Aegis – Beyond the Astral Prairie (1977) [Full Album] Transferred directly from the original 1/2" 16-track analog master reels (15 IPS stereo). ALBUM BACKGROUND & RECORDING HISTORY: During the sweltering Midwest summer of 1977, four musicians set up a mobile recording rig inside an abandoned 1920s art-deco cinema in rural Kansas. Driven by a desire to capture both intimate warmth and cosmic grandeur, they utilized the decayed theater’s expansive wooden stage and domed plaster ceiling as a massive natural acoustic echo chamber. Recorded shortly before the studio era yielded entirely to modern digital polish, "Beyond the Astral Prairie" represents an untamed, soaring testament to American symphonic progressive rock. The sessions weave intricate 7/8 rhythm structures, blistering Minimoog and Hammond B3 duels, and towering four-part vocal harmonies into an expansive sci-fi journey across the plains. SIDE 1: TERRESTRIAL HORIZONS 00:00 – Flight of the Solar Wind (Hammond fanfare, driving 7/8 groove & dual guitar leads) 05:12 – Mirage in the Starlight (Shimmering 12-string acoustic, Rickenbacker bass & Moog runs) 09:50 – Dust on the Obsidian Plain (Heartbreaking acoustic ballad with weeping Stratocaster solo) 14:45 – The Clockwork Constellation (Polymetric prog rock epic; organ & guitar duel) SIDE 2: THE ASTRAL EXPEDITION 19:52 – Voices Across the Nebula (Anthemic arena-prog harmonies & soaring Leslie guitars) 24:36 – Lighthouse of the Drifting Stars (Soulful acoustic piano, fretless bass & melodic climax) 28:43 – Beyond the Astral Prairie (10-minute title suite; multi-part symphonic rock climax) ARCHIVAL RECORDING DETAILS: • Artist: Aegis • Album: Beyond the Astral Prairie • Recorded: July 14–August 2, 1977 in Kansas, USA • Master: Studer A80 15 IPS Stereo Reel-to-Reel Transfer • Primary Gear: 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom, 1974 Fender Stratocaster, Hammond B3 with Leslie 122, Minimoog Model D, Rickenbacker 4001, Ludwig vintage drum kit. • Recommended for listeners of: Kansas ('Leftoverture' / 'Point of Know Return'), Starcastle, Styx ('The Grand Illusion'), Yes, Boston.
