Scotland - The Land of Castle's & Kingdoms. Video 1 of a multi-part Scotland series. Tarbert - My modern day comparison of The Folk of the Faraway Tree. Where the vehicles may be modern, but the town's Folk are old school. The clock tick's slightly slower here, thankfully. My journey to Tarbert began much like the beginning of the loved video game DREDGE, an old wooden boat, crazy weather, a BATSHIT crazy skipper who couldn't hold it together & then there's ME... somehow I have joined the Maritime Madness. A budding, enthusiastic, smiling South African ready to Macgyver my way around the world with Leatherman in one hand & photography gear in the other. My MO - prepare an old fishing trawler for delivery from Tarbert in the Scottish Highlands to Ghana. Easy. ETA - 6 - 8 weeks. No knowledge of the skipper, the vessel, the mechanics ( other than she's an old Volvo Penta, Mate. ) NOTHING! She's in fairly good nic, perhaps compared to that of a small floating beach house, even a gas BBQ grill on board with deck chairs for the summer sun as soon as we hit Tenerife. JUST DO NOT UNSETTLE THE FOUNDATIONS! Well I got the vessel prepared & ready for her Voyage & as all great stories go.... I watched her leave from the Quay & as she steamed into the distance, smoke stack bellowing away I couldn't help, but smile.
