My Visit to Assateague Island - July of 2026

On my visit to Assateague Island, I quickly realized there’s a lot more to see than just the beach. If you’re planning a trip, I highly recommend considering the $25 National Seashore pass instead of only paying for beach access. The National Seashore opens up miles of scenic driving routes and hiking trails that let you experience so much more of the island beyond the shoreline. I was honestly so excited to get to the beach that I went straight there, fully expecting to see wild horses running along the water. Looking back, I wish I had slowed down and explored the National Seashore first before heading straight to the beach. For reference, the National Seashore is $25 per vehicle, while beach access is $5 per person—so depending on your group size, one option may be more cost-effective than the other. Either way, my time at Assateague was absolutely unforgettable and 100% worth the visit.
