Duty, Honour, and Discipline
Marching Song of the Imperial Army
“Duty, Honour, and Discipline” is a traditional marching song of the Imperial Army. Inspired by the military traditions of discipline, camaraderie, and service, the song celebrates the principles that define the character and conduct of an Imperial soldier.
At the heart of the song are the Three Great Duties and Eight Great Rules, a code of military conduct established to govern the behaviour of all personnel serving in the Imperial Army. These principles form the foundation of the Army's military discipline, professional ethos, and relationship with the civilian population.
The Three Great Duties establish the fundamental obligations of every Imperial soldier: obedience to lawful authority, unity among fellow service members, and unwavering commitment to the defence of the Empire and its people.
The Eight Great Rules establish standards of personal conduct, emphasizing integrity, accountability, restraint, and respect for civilians, their property, and the rights and dignity of others. Together, they affirm that military strength must be accompanied by moral responsibility, and that the honour of the Imperial Army is reflected not only in its victories, but also in the conduct of its soldiers.
The Three Great Duties
1. Obey all lawful orders.
2. Stand united in service.
3. Defend the Empire and its people.
The Eight Great Rules
1. Respect all civilians.
2. Take nothing without payment.
3. Return all borrowed property.
4. Compensate for damages.
5. Never abuse or mistreat others.
6. Protect crops and property.
7. Protect the vulnerable.
8. Treat prisoners humanely.
The Three Great Duties and Eight Great Rules are taught to every Imperial soldier as an enduring standard of military service. They reinforce the principle that the Imperial Army exists to serve the nation, uphold its constitutional institutions, and safeguard the people it is sworn to defend.
Sung during route marches, military training, and ceremonial occasions, Duty, Honour, and Discipline serves both as a marching song and as a reminder of the responsibilities carried by those who serve beneath the Imperial Banner.
Duty in Service. Honour in Conduct. Discipline in Action.
