It is a serious and potentially life-threatening lung disease characterized by the scarring and thickening of lung tissues. This scarring, known as fibrosis, stiffens the lungs and makes it difficult to breathe deeply, restricting oxygen transfer into the bloodstream. Types of Pulmonary fibrosis: There are various types of pulmonary fibrosis, with the most common being Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). IPF has no known cause, hence the term "idiopathic". Other types can stem from autoimmune diseases (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma), environmental exposures (e.g., asbestos, silica), radiation therapy, certain medications, and genetic factors. What are the Symptoms of Pulmonary fibrosis: Common symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis include shortness of breath (especially during exertion), a persistent dry cough, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, clubbing of the fingers or toes, and sometimes bluish skin around the lips or nails (cyanosis). How to Diagnosis Pulmonary fibrosis: Diagnosing pulmonary fibrosis often involves a combination of medical history review, physical exam (listening for crackling sounds in the lungs), imaging tests (chest X-ray, high-resolution CT scan), lung function tests (spirometry, diffusion capacity), blood tests, and sometimes a lung biopsy. Treatment options for Pulmonary fibrosis: Currently, there's no cure for pulmonary fibrosis, and the lung damage is largely irreversible. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms, slowing down disease progression, and improving the patient's quality of life. Treatment approaches can include: • Medications: Antifibrotic drugs like pirfenidone (Esbriet) and nintedanib (Ofev) may slow down the progression of IPF and help prevent acute exacerbations (sudden worsening of symptoms). Corticosteroids might be used to reduce inflammation in some cases. Anti-acid medications may be prescribed if the patient has gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is common in individuals with IPF. • Oxygen Therapy: Supplemental oxygen can ease breathing difficulties, especially during physical activity and sleep, improving quality of life and reducing strain on the heart. Pulmonary • Rehabilitation: This program involves exercise, breathing techniques, nutritional counseling, and emotional support to help patients manage symptoms, improve lung function, and maintain an active lifestyle. • Lung Transplant: In severe cases, a lung transplant may be an option for eligible patients, potentially extending life and improving quality of life #pulmonaryfibrosis #pulmonaryfibrosistreatment #pulmonaryfibrosissymptoms #lungdisease #lungdiseasesymptoms #lungdiseasetreatment #drkirankumar #healthvideo #hyderabad Dr Kiran Kumar Reddy Polaka Consultant Pulmonologist & Sleep specialist Unihealth Speciality Clinics Address: House No: Kondapur Main Road, above apollo pharmacy, Sri Ramnagar - Block B, Kondapur, Telangana 500084 Appointments contact - +91-7995000717 /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// DISCLAIMER: This content (the video, description, links, and comments) is not medical advice or a treatment plan and is intended for general education and demonstration purposes only.
