3rd August 2026
Back home in Nepal, Phag-Ngi is a traditional farmers' festival celebrated after the work in the high pastures is completed and just before the farming season begins in the home villages. Families and friends gather for a few days to relax and celebrate with delicious food, drinks, games, singing, laughter, and dancing.
Today, Phag-Ngi is celebrated wherever Sherpa communities live around the world.
The Himalayan Sherpa Club Sonoma celebrated Phag-Ngi on 3rd August at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Sonoma. More than 100 people joined the celebration, including Da Tshering and Pasang, Achu Pasang and Dawa La from Los Angeles, and Achu Nima and Mingma from Santa Barbara.
Guests gathered at 12:00 p.m., where they were warmly welcomed by the Lawas. At 12:30 p.m., a traditional puja was performed, followed by tea and Phagri. A delicious lunch, snacks, and dinner were served, along with juice, wine, whisky, and chyang.
Everyone had a wonderful time catching up with friends, playing games, singing, laughing, and dancing until midnight.
Here are a few photos from this joyful celebration. 🎉
