One journey. Several days. One unforgettable loop through the Tibetan Plateau. This is a 30-minute journey through one of the most spectacular road-trip regions in southwest China. I started from Dukezong Ancient Town in Shangri-La, Yunnan, then headed north into Sichuan and the spectacular Genie Mountain region, following the southern route of the Genie Mountain circuit before making my way back into northern Yunnan. Along the way, there were high-altitude passes, endless grasslands, deep valleys, Tibetan villages, winding mountain roads and snow-covered peaks. Some roads were smooth. Some were rough. Some sections felt like they led straight into the middle of nowhere. But that’s exactly what made this journey special. This video is a condensed 30-minute version of several days on the road — from Shangri-La to Genie Mountain, across Ganzi, through northern Yunnan, and finally back to where the journey began. No rush. No fixed itinerary. Just the road, the mountains, and whatever was waiting around the next corner.
