Do What's Safe and What's Right | Josh Morgan, CruzAlta

Recorded live at the AFPM Summit 2026 in Grapevine, Texas, this episode of Agents of Change brings together Artem Kuchukov, CEO of KEWAZO, and Josh Morgan, Director of Turnaround Excellence at CruzAlta, a Refined Technologies company. Josh spent close to two decades at BASF in Geismar, Louisiana, working his way up from operations to production superintendent, turnaround engineer and, finally, turnaround and capital construction manager. At CruzAlta he now sees how turnarounds are run across the whole industry, and he calls that view humbling. He shares two war stories: an unplanned outage with a 14-day window that had to be planned in seven weeks instead of about six months, and a near-miss flash fire after the cleaning of a pyrophoric line was cut from scope. The conversation also covers why the shutdown and startup "bookends" of a turnaround have barely been optimized, why the clients that improve fastest take calculated risks, and where digital twins, robotic cleaning, drones and remote planning are changing the work. It closes with questions from the audience.
