DO AS JESUS DID Becoming Like Jesus 3 September 6, 2026 BIG IDEA: FOLLOWING JESUS WILL LEAD YOU TO DO AS HE DID. WHAT IT MEANS TO DO AS JESUS DID? 1. LOVE LIKE JESUS. (John 13:34-35)  He loved sacrificially. (John 15:13)  He loved betrayers  He loved disloyal friends and family. (Luke 22:31-34)  He loved enemies. (Matt. 5:44; Luke 23:34-37) 2. LEAD LIKE JESUS.  He led by example. (Matt. 3:13-15; John 15:10; 1 Pet. 2:20- 21)  He led by serving. (Mark 10:41-45) 3. LIVE ON MISSION LIKE JESUS. (JOHN 20:21) DAILY DEVOTIONS FOR THIS WEEK Monday: Read about Peter’s denial in Luke 22:31-34; 54-62. What hope do you see in what Jesus told Peter when He foretold the denial? Read John 21 about how Jesus restored Peter as the leader of the apostles. How did Jesus affirm his love for Peter in v. 15-19? How have you responded to betrayal and/or disloyalty from a family member, friend or associate? Ask Jesus to help you forgive and love them. Tuesday: Jesus led by example. What did He warn about following the example of the scribes and Pharisees in Matt. 23:1-12. If every follower of Jesus followed your example, would the church be more loving, outgoing, compassionate, forgiving, worshipful, prayerful, humble, etc. Read 1 Cor. 11:1. Would you feel comfortable inviting your family and friends to “follow Jesus as I follow Him?” Why or why not? Wednesday: Jesus said in John 13:34-35 that all people will know whether you are one of His followers by how you love other believers. Are there people in the church (your church or others) that you don’t love? Do you say hurtful things about other believers behind their backs or attack them on social media? If lost people heard what you said or read what you posted, would they see the love of Jesus in you and want to know Him? Thursday: Jesus loved sacrificially. Read John 15:13. Have you laid down your pride and ego to love others? Have you laid down your prestige to love others? Have you laid down your desire to control or always be right to love others? Laying down your life to love others is not just about dying for them physically. It’s humbling yourself and putting their needs above yours (Philippians 2:1-11). Friday: Jesus lived every moment of His life on mission. He expects the same from His followers. Read John 20:21. How does living SENT (seeing people like Jesus, eating with people like Jesus, neighboring people like Jesus and talking to people about Jesus) summarize what it means to “do what Jesus did?” Have you lived SENT in the past two weeks? How? With whom? Ask God to give you opportunities and boldness to live SENT in the coming week.
