Delhi Police have detained social media influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh following an altercation at Jantar Mantar. The confrontation involved social media creator Nishu, also known as Girlysu, and her father Sanjay Azad, who alleged physical assault during a protest. The detention followed public outrage, political intervention from leaders including Member of Parliament Chandra Shekhar Aazad, and viral video footage where Bhardwaj discussed the clash. Police are evaluating the inclusion of stringent legal sections in the existing First Information Report, including provisions under the SC/ST Act, the POCSO Act, and Attempt to Murder under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials stated that adding these non-bailable offences depends on updated medical reports assessing the extent of injuries, digital evidence, and fresh complaints regarding online threats.
